Today, we’re going to shine a light on an up and coming producer from Ontario that goes by the moniker Sta. The bio on his myspace is about as simple and true to life as it gets: “I’m just another remixer dj who’s trying to make beats while not flunking out of school.” I’ve got a special spot in my heart for student producers as I have great memories of pissing off my neighbors while working on tracks in my dorm.
I was first attracted to Sta after coming across his remix of Hail Social’s “Cherry Cola” funk. Sta’s version is five minutes of a remix that not only maintains, but flaunts the pop nature of Hail Social. He pulls back on the overdriven paris influence this time and instead adds a ton of subtle accents that are much like sugar-flaked glitter that sparkle all over.
Sta takes the popular contemporary approach with Timbaland’s “Give It To Me.” The second I heard this track I knew that it was truly meant to run at 127 BPM… and when I would play it I would jack the tempo up. The speed increase really lets you get into the cadence and the chorus fucking shines. Sta also jacks the tempo up and then adds re-triggered vocals and an overdriven lead.
Sta has officially become one of the remix artists that I’m keeping an eye on in the months to come. Check out all the tracks below and see why.
