I love when a recommendation hits the mark. Rich over at Cable & Tweed sent the Velcro Stars record my way, and I gotta hand it to him. This is good stuff. Though Rich and I agree on a lot of stuff music-wise, I think he’d agree that his taste falls a bit more poppy than mine. This is a band that we can agree on completely. This is nothing ground-breaking or super original; it’s just really good indie pop from Murfreesboro, TN. I don’t know too much about the ‘boro. I’ve been there once, for a Phish show way back in 1998. I know MTSU has a great music program, and I guess that’s why bands like this one get started there.
NashvilleZine compares the group to Pavement and Superchunk, and I guess that’s not too far fetched. I’d say they’re not quite as quirky as Pavement, but they’ve probably listened to Crooked Rain Crooked Rain a few times. Anyway, they’re definitely worth checking out. These two songs are from their just-released full-length, Hiroshima’s Revenge. I don’t know where you can pick up a copy. It’s not currently available at Happy Happy Birthday to Me’s site. I’m sure you can contact them for further info if you happen to be interested.

Wouldn’t argue for a second about my tastes being more on the pop end than yours. But glad we’re both digging these guys.
Oh, and I was at that MTSU Phish show too, although I drove there from Missouri/Illinois. Funny that.
I have totally lost respect for both of your for attending a Phish show. The worst two hours of my life was spent at a Widespread Panic show in 1994. Oy. Oh, and another solida band out of the ‘Boro is The Features.
Phish is ten times more respectable than Panic, Chuck.
I went to about 60 Phish shows before the hiatus. Wasn’t just the one.
And I don’t like Panic either.
Oh, and as for ‘Boro bands — How I Became the Bomb, Ghostfinger, and Glossary are damn good too.
It may not be in ATL until February 27th, but you should be able to get a copy at Wuxtry in Athens. If you’re not feeling that mobile, we’re working on MySpace links for purchasing merchandise. And maybe one day soon, this will be updated, too: http://www.velcrostars.com. Thanks for diggin’ us. The ‘Boro has a lot going for it right now. Come see us. (Oh, and I remember the Phish show, but I did not attend. MTSU has really slacked off on the big concerts and has become more football-oriented. I mean, priorities here, people!)
Wow, superchuck?
Oops! Fixed, although “Superchuck” is kinda funny.
yeah i’ve pretty much really been digging on the nashville and m’boro music scenes these past few months. they’ve got a ton of really strong bands lately.
