It was some point during the last half of 2006 that DJ DJ Dylan (Prior to assuming the moniker Le Castle Vania) sent my brother one of his new “secret weapon” tracks. The artist was Muscles, who I instantly fell in love with. The song, “One Inch Badge Pin,” was, in fact, a remix by a duo called Bag Raiders.
Fast forward three years later and Bag Raiders are now some of the most prolific and consistent producers out of the original Australian wave.
Maybe being from Sydney partly explains the key differences in their sound between other Australian producers that hail from the indie capitol, Melbourne. Bag Raiders can pound away the analog leads (think Van She Tech) that dominated Australian electro. However, much of their music also has more melodic backbone with smoother production without sacrificing the epic hands in the air moments. I can only compare it to visual awe of a room filled with thousands of mesmerizing beams of disco ball light versus being beaten in the face to death with strobes.
So, with that said… I am very pleased to be presenting Bag Raiders live for the very first time in Atlanta at MJQ this Saturday, April 18th. Doors will be opened at 11pm and admission will be nicely discounted for those who arrive before midnight.
