I’d have to say that track for track, Million$Mano has never failed to put out a remix I didn’t like. I was first turned on to him by Matt Roan, who is also a Chicago native, when he sent me the Mano’s remix of “Lady.” At this point, Mano seemed to be falling in step with the B-More movement.
With each remix he released, his style developed and shifted. Some remixes still followed the B-More framework, with a bit of a Chicago flavor. Others, like his remixes of Jay-Z and Kanye, were lush swirling stompers that in my mind really set Mano apart from his contemporaries.
However, I think what really stuck me was how nice he was in person. I met his cousin, Hollywood Holt, by the pool at the IHEARTCOMIX / Mad Decent party during SXSW this year. Holt, was spread out in a lounge chair in gold dunks fanning himself with a few hundred dollars. Despite his flamboyant display, I figured I’d chat him up since we were sitting next to each other. He turned out to be incredibly nice and then wanted me to meet his cousin.
Later in the week, at the Vice closing party, he brought over his cousin, who turned out to be none other than Mano. We talked for a while about… well… it was the end of SXSW and I’m drunk in the VIP room trying not to hallucinate from the heavy black lighting… so… I don’t remember much of the convo. What I do remember is how pleasant they both were… and that I promised to get them to Atlanta as soon as possible.
So, now the time has come. We’ve got Mano for not one, but two phenomenal nights. He’ll be playing A/S/L for its second run at ICE Ultra Lounge tonight. Also, Mano was specially picked to join us for the last meeting of the Decatur Social Club at Azul on Friday.
Enjoy the mixes below… and see you all there!
